Returning to the Essence of the Story, Beyond the Weight of the Classics
Over thousands of years, the Homeric epics have been sung, retold, and rewritten across generations, becoming an enduring source of inspiration for countless works. Their original origins have long since faded into obscurity, while the texts themselves have come to be revered as timeless classics.
The cover design is conceived around the idea of ”decanonization“—stripping away the layers of accumulated reverence and fixed imagery that have formed over millennia, allowing readers to rediscover the essential power of Homer‘s stories.
The Iliad is set against the backdrop of the Trojan War, portraying a world consumed by jealousy, conflict, the fury of warriors, and the pursuit of glory. Its cover uses fire as a central motif, embodying the epic’s intense emotions and dramatic tension.
The Odyssey follows the war hero Odysseus on his long and perilous voyage home. Its cover draws on the sea as a symbol of his epic journey, reflecting a mortal‘s unwavering confrontation with a fate as vast, unpredictable, and relentless as the ocean.
